Live Q&A with Change Makers (a sorta reunion)

As I often shout from the rooftops, I’m fortunate to support the most brilliant, heartfelt and badass humans ever.

Being of service to you keeps me keepin’ on.

But there’s something else that propels me to take on the kind of back end organization that comes with leading groups, weekends and trainings.

I want you to have what I get to have.

Each other. Together. In one place.

Creating a dedicated group for change makers to practice following energy around work, life and leadership while also connecting with each other has been an especially huge motivator.

Day by day doing your best to make a positive contribution in your work life amidst individual and organizational resistance can be lonely, exhausting and demoralizing.

It’s been a blessing to offer following energy as a daily practice and restorative harbor which nourishes and connects kindred travelers even after the journey completes.

With registration closing on October 3rd, I’ve been contemplating how to give you a sense of what Following Energy for Change Makers is like.

And so next Thursday, September 28th noon - 1:00pm PT you’re invited to a live Q&A which includes Change Makers across groups (a kind of reunion).

A bunch of former participants are attending to reflect on following energy (🙏🏼😍). Questions about Following Energy for Change Makers are welcome.

I’ll also offer a brief program update, including a new bonus training with trauma literacy coach Carlee Adamson (for details scroll down on the Change Maker page).

This is an opportunity for you —brilliant, heartfelt and badass humans — to meet and connect.

Each other. Together. In one place.

Sign-up to attend and/or receive a recording.

If you can’t make it, you’re also welcome to send a question.

Hope to see you there.

With such deep gratitude,

Staci

Ps. If you’re interested in this fall’s cohort of Change Makers, the final step is a zoom visit with me. The door closes October 3rd.

Navigating ADHD with Following Energy

Following the energy can sometimes mean holding and living into questions for a long time.

Many years ago, I began noticing ADHD when clients who are moms started tracking differences with their children.

As these smart, intuitive, dedicated and loving women (many of you😍) began naming ADHD as a possibility for their kids, they also started wondering about their own unique wiring. These keen observations began making me wonder about my wiring too.

Then one day, in the midst of an embodied leadership group, ADHD came up, several participants self-identified and when someone commented casually, “following energy is really helping me with my ADHD,” they all nodded and smiled.

My jaw dropped. My stomach tightened. An inner voice exclaimed, “Holy shit, are you catching this?”

Why all the internal fuss?

Well, in 2008 my world got rocked when every woman in an ongoing group I was holding shared they’d been clinically diagnosed with anxiety at some point, and how energy healing had given them something western medicine couldn’t. Realizing energy work could soften fear not only crystallized how I could serve women with anxiety, it helped me recognize fear as a teacher for following energy overall.

Fast forward and this second holy shit moment introduced a new question: Was it possible that following energy could also be a resource for navigating ADHD?

Why all the internal fuss?

Well, in 2008 my world got rocked when every woman in an ongoing group I was holding shared they’d been clinically diagnosed with anxiety at some point, and how energy healing had given them something western medicine couldn’t. Realizing energy work could soften fear not only crystallized how I could serve women with anxiety, it helped me recognize fear as a teacher for following energy overall.

Fast forward and this second holy shit moment introduced a new question: Was it possible that following energy could also be a resource for navigating ADHD?

I began tracking this deeply in work and life. Along the way, I met Jesse Kauffman, a psychologist specializing in ADHD through an amazing coaching program with Annie Schuessler (🙏🏼🥰). He and I started connecting and exchanging ideas, though I later discovered he’d heard about following energy with me before.

Jesse is not only a wonderful human, he’s a compassionate psychologist who understands the limitations of western approaches and is curious about other modalities. Perhaps because he has a creative ADHD brain too.

When it came time to restart my podcast, a conversation with Jesse about ADHD and following energy was at the top of my list.

I’m grateful he said yes. I’m grateful for our wildly insightful conversation.

And most of all, I’m grateful to my beloved bad ass clients for allowing me to hold, follow and learn alongside you all these years. Thank you.

Season 3, Episode 3: Navigating ADHD with Following Energy

Can following energy be a resource for navigating ADHD? Join Staci and guest psychologist Jesse Kauffman who specializes in ADHD for an incredibly illuminating conversation. As Jesse and Staci explore ADHD from psychological, somatic, energetic and personal perspectives, they realize just how supportive following energy can be for navigating ADHD inside oneself and daily life. For anyone who has ADHD or knows someone with ADHD, don’t miss this informative, compassionate and liberating episode.

Special Early Bird (shhh) + Following Energy for Change Makers

The door for fall Following Energy for Change Makers opens today with an early bird bonus I’m sharing with you first (because: thank you).

Based on the incredible participants so far, following energy for change makers can be for you whether have big job titles, own small businesses, are mid-level managers or hold space for change as healers, coaches and therapists.

At the root, Change Makers is for intentional people who want to embody a different kind of possibility— unhurried, compassionate, creative, delightful or whatever intention they choose — in work, life and leadership (codependent no more!😘).

In fact, while updating my website with new program features and testimonials, I noticed the word on most everyone’s lips was “embodied”:

  • Interacting with the eight teachers from my book as a framework to follow energy felt embodied

  • Somatic practices activated embodied learning

  • Exploring how energy might be “talking” (and guiding) through specifics in daily life is an embodied practice.

These reflections make my soul smile wide.

Because the more each of us embraces body as a nexus for shifting paradigms inside, the closer we’ll get to birthing a different — unhurried, compassionate, creative and delightful — way of life for us all.

And it’s time.

Special early bird bonus news:

Following Energy for Change Makers starts in October but as soon as you sign up, your journey can begin with content on intention setting.

And.

You’ll also receive immediate access to unlimited asynchronous mentoring with me.

If this appeals to you, the next step is a zoom visit to see if Change Makers is a fit.

This gives us extra time together. The more I get to know you, the more I can be of support, and the more fun we can have together.

We’ll begin exploring intention setting work so by our first group meeting in mid-October, you’ll be extra ready to dive deep and fly high with following energy.

Are you a recovering type A change maker?

You've probably had moments between an ending and a beginning where you get to reflect and take stock, yes?

Since completing another (magnificent) 7Directions Facilitator Training last December and almost finishing the fall cohort of Following Energy for Change Makers, I've been realizing how much of my somatic energy healing work supports leadership development.

When I say leadership, I'm talking about feeling like you have agency and resilience in your life regardless of your job title.

I want you to feel empowered. Strong. Capable. The subtitle of my book, How to Grow Through Whatever Life Throws Your Way, still stands.

The participants in Following Energy have also been reflecting who this practice is for.

It's for people who are seekers and learners. Who realize the way we're approaching life and work isn't balanced, sustainable or pleasurable. Who want another way but even after years of yoga or talk therapy, still don't know how to get out of a codependent relationship with work (here's why).

They realize it's time to let go and find a new way, but they aren't sure about how to actually let go and find their new way.

Some of the people I've been grateful to support have a big job title while others own small businesses, are mid-level managers or practice leadership through coaching and psychotherapy.

They may or may not consider themselves leaders but they do want to make a difference in the world without sacrificing their well being. Most are parents. And most grapple with creating a work-life balance while navigating high sensitivity and/or neurodiversity in their lives.

While experience with energy healing varies, everyone is curious about how working with energy and somatic wisdom through structured learning with individual mentoring might be key.

These brave and heart-centered people are recovering type A change makers ready to practice following energy to find their own way.

Could this be you too? I'm happy to hold some space for you to find out.

Following energy creates both-and living

After the torrential rains, the shining blue skies on the San Mateo Coast felt like a gift. Like the tides were turning to greet 2023 with some earnest joy.

Last Friday, while making a video announcing Spring Following Energy for Change Makers a rainbow actually appeared.

Then I got some upsetting news about an old family friend's health. Layoffs started spreading. More shootings began, including one in Half Moon Bay just minutes from where my 27 year-old daughter and I had walked our pups that very same day.

I don't want to be in denial but it also doesn't serve anyone if I fall into a depressive heap.

Miki Johnson, who also holds Following Energy as a somatic energy guide for Turning Dead Ends into Doorways, remarked, "It's the tools and capacity I've grown through following energy that's keeping me standing right now."

I said. "What does that look like for you?"

Miki responded, "Following energy helps me stay present in the moment and grounded in myself. Working consciously with difficult energy like fear, regret, and shame helps me move through them so I can still show up empowered and resourced with the people and work I love."

Yup. Following energy holds me through hard times but it also helps me appreciate blue skies and rainbows.

Following energy can facilitate both-and living in work, life and leadership for you too.

This brings me full circle to the video I made for you. So here's the rainbow along with some benefits that can come from Following Energy for Change Makers:

Please stay safe and appreciate the good moments.

Energy matters, hugely.

Not much about this summer has gone as I imagined.

In fact, as I write this, my family is days away from navigating a big surgery for a beloved elder. It's a good thing. And it's a big thing.

Throughout, my relationship with following energy has been a guiding force.

I can recognize fears so they become a source of awareness and choice. Connecting with my body helps me access intuition. Staying behind the energy of my intention to support without over giving keeps codependency in check. And most of all, constantly practicing letting go as the biggest mama teacher of surrender initiates us all through the depths of the unknown is facilitating a healing journey to literally restore life.

Fear. Awareness. Choice. Body. Intuition. Energy. Intention. Surrender.

I am so damn grateful for how these eight teachers from Turning Dead Ends into Doorways can be a lifeline for following energy.

In the midst of this big initiation in my family, it's also been a summer of magic. I've experienced unbelievable holy shit moments of life rearranging itself for the highest good when energy is held lightly instead of with a death grip of control.

I'm in constant awe at how much energy matters.

3 Elements of Following Energy

If we’ve spent time together, you’ve heard me talk about following energy. A lot.

Following energy is rooted in Earth-based and feminine wisdom ways. The heart of following energy holds all life as a potential relationship. It’s possible to create a relationship with anyone or anything, starting with yourself.

Everyone I know who follows energy as a practice and approach to life agrees on one core tenant: by definition, following energy means staying behind it.

Don’t get ahead of the energy.

This is easy to write but embodying following energy is a whole other thing…which is why it’s a practice.

You can follow the energy of a person, group and heartfelt wish.

You can also follow the energy of your work and business as well as leadership.

Following energy happens through paying attention to an intention, your body and daily life occurrences.

Over 15 years ago, following the healing potential of my people led me to notice eight daily teachers for learning to follow energy. To learn more, check out Season 2 of my podcast, Turning Dead Ends into Doorways.

But first, check out a video that connects following energy with creating great work called 3 elements of following energy:

How do you know if you’re following energy?

It was the early 2000’s in San Francisco when I began offering individual sessions with those who didn’t know about Earth-based or feminine wisdom ways much less “following energy”.

“How do I know if I’m following energy?”

“What does ‘stay behind the energy’ mean, anyway?”

“How will I know if following energy actually works?”

I just love feisty people.

Sitting with curious and brave people willing to grapple with me is what led to developing a shared language for following energy.

And before we got there, we spent awhile discussing the difference between push and flow as a felt experience.

Real talk about following energy includes noticing feelings and bodily sensations.

In fact, following energy is a somatic practice—really, it’s a somatic AND an energy healing practice—you can apply to everyday living. Relationships. Decisions. Projects. Work.

So how do you know if following energy is working when it comes to your business?

To begin a conversation with you, I made a (short) video about how push and flow might show up in your work life:

Since a conversation isn’t just one way, and I like feisty people, I’d love to hear what’s coming in about push and flow for you.

And if you want to start a conversation about following energy with someone in your life, you’re welcome to share this post or video.

Thank you for your time.

How does following energy help you make decisions?

I regularly hold space for people to make all sorts of decisions.

Decisions about relationships and how to navigate conflict (helloooo codependency).

And choices about health—which can be especially confusing with mysterious or chronic symptoms.

When it comes to work, making decisions can be just as intense.

There are larger issues like choosing your field, earning more money, working solo or for others and maintaining a work-life balance.

And there’s also intricate yet mighty questions about services, leading projects, marketing, social media, individual or group dynamics (helloooo codependency) and….

Whoa. Even writing this is making my stomach clench.

Okay, so making a decision can feel challenging. Overwhelming. And even immobilizing.

Why?

Why?

A choice can feel edgy because it’s a commitment. It involves taking a leap or setting a boundary. A choice determines a focus. It charts a potential course.

Within that, when it comes to making decisions, what keeps us stuck and spinning the most is the fear of making the wrong decision.

What if it were possible to grow a different kind of relationship with making decisions?

Following energy is an embodied practice that approaches decision-making in a step by step way with compassion.

Beyond right or wrong, following energy can teach you to trust yourself more, and trust your decisions.

For more on how following energy leads to better decisions, enjoy this (short) video:

How can following energy create great work?

Video is a whole new medium for me.

What's inspiring me to step forward is you.

Our interactions about following the energy of work and leadership.

How so many of us are clear that pushing isn't sustainable.

Just today I had an amazing conversation connecting pushing with urgency as a symptom of white supremacy which lives inside us all.

This made me appreciate that the roots of following energy rest in Earth-based and feminine wisdom that hold all life as a collaborative power-with relationship.

What might happen if we approach creating work as a way to grow (and practice) relationship?

How can following energy help create great work?

We interrupt this video series with a message from body

I'm interrupting our video series to share a real life story with you.

Consider it a message from body as a teacher for following energy.

Clearly, I'm all fired up to talk about following the energy of work and leadership more publicly right now.

Yes, this relates to my offering, Following Energy for Change Makers.

But I'm also feeling called to explore how to practice work in a more sustainable way. Especially with those who believe energy matters too.

Here's where following energy can expand potential in daily life.

Besides making videos, I've been producing Season 2 of my podcast focusing on my book with 8 teachers for learning how to follow energy.

It so happens that this month, body is the featured teacher on the podcast.

It so happens that this month, body is the featured teacher on the podcast.

When I asked this month's guest, Erin Carper, how body has generally been a teacher in her life, she began describing the shift from push to flow as a felt experience in creating meaningful work.

Holy shit. My jaw dropped. And my heart leaped.

Erin went on to share how listening to her body--through grief and injury and joy-- has helped her "get behind" and "follow the energy" as a former professional dancer and current somatic eco-therapy and wilderness guide.

And so, if you enjoyed the video on how do you know if you’re following energy consider this month's podcast a companion and example of push and flow in your work life, along with other lessons from body too.

Thank you to body for showing us the way.

Thank you to Erin Carper for how you're listening and following.

And thank you to synchronicity for being following energy's best friend.

PS. This is the kind of magic we can make together around your work life.

Letting go can make you feel powerful (shhh, don’t tell)

Sometimes a scene flashes where I see myself standing up in a room of strangers and confessing, “Hi, my name is Staci and I’m a recovering type A personality.”

Had control worked, I would be happily checking off my to do list right now.

But what I discovered years ago is that control is a fragile coping mechanism for life.

Often seeking control ends up controlling you, usually by terrorizing you with fear.

And so I invite you consider something:

Letting go can actually make you feel more powerful.

Thank you to all those who have stepped forward to join Following Energy for Change Makers, woo hoo!!!

If time is your challenge:

  • 1:1 mentoring is asynchronous so you can do it on the fly

  • the 8 group meetings are every other week over a 4 month period (plus they’re recorded)

  • this isn’t book learning, it’s life learning

  • leaning in with me and this intentional experience will help you hold more, not less

If money is a factor, this is leadership development that your company may cover, is deductible as consulting, and payment plans are available.

And if you’re on the fence, schedule an exploratory Zoom with me.

If this four month journey isn’t right for you, I don’t want to you come.

Having a moment together is what can help you find out.

How can following energy make you a better leader?

I didn’t set out to become a group facilitator, or a leader.

Instead, somatic energy healing practices found me.

For example, one day 20 years ago, I was moving to music in a friend’s living room when a vision landed to explore dance as a ceremonial practice.

Because it was more fun to dance with others, we began inviting people over. Soon, the living room overflowed into a rented space and a fee to cover basics.

Gradually, periodic evenings grew into several monthly dance circles for women from September through June across the San Francisco Bay Area. Dancers started calling themselves a community. Many asked to become facilitators.

7Directions, a dance ceremony healing line, was born.

Sure, being a recovering type A personality has supported back end organization, production and communication over the years.

But what’s fueled my choice to keep practicing leadership with 7Directions through ongoing groups, retreats and facilitator trainings has been love.

Your next step for following energy starts with a word

The heart of following energy is getting behind the people and projects that you want to support.

I’m thrilled so many of you have reached out to share that this video series has been valuable.

This really helps me. Do you know why?

The heart of following energy is getting behind the people and projects that you want to support.

Following includes listening and attuning to you.

Speaking up about what works and doesn't work for you makes following energy better, and easier, for me.

Thank you. Seriously.

My intention with this video series has been to get behind your life learning.

If you have questions or ideas about topics for future videos on following energy, I’m all ears.

The video series will be slowing down as we start prepping for our Following Energy for Change Makers which is happening. Woo hoo!

You’re welcome to join the mailing list below for future dates for Following Energy for Change Makers.

  • "Staci Boden has been a steadfast guide for me over the past decade. Her skillful and compassionate insights have influenced my path greatly. She is fierce when it is called for, and a deep listener who nurtures as she teaches. I would not be the woman I am today wthout her support and love."

    Tasha A.

  • "My husband and I found ourselves stuck in some patterns we were having trouble escaping. Working with Staci helped us identify the different ways in which we were effectively communicating and relating, and how we were not. She helped us gain greater understanding of our own energies and how we could create a both-and world."

    Tina S.

  • "Staci's presence in my life has been unyielding and profound. With her support, I have been able to navigate living with depression and anxiety, going through major life/work/relationship transitions, and learning to work with the unknown and the unknowable. Staci never ceases to be a source of nurturance, guidance, and deep, deep care."

    Lisa L.

  • "My beloved and I were fortunate to work with Staci over the course of 2+ years. Her skillful listening and pointed observations helped us to open to changes our relationship needed. The tools and practices along with having a place to talk it out together created a relationship container than holds us today. We would not have made it without her. Thank you, Staci for guiding and loving us."

    Teresa C.

  • "Staci does not lead you into deep places unattended."

    Catherine A.

  • "I started seeing Staci because I felt boxed in and trapped - literally. Staci helped me transform the box and get in touch with aspects of my life that had been long buried. She's provided the space and support to allow those aspects to thrive and flourish, which has helped me grow as a person. I no longer feel trapped and boxed in, my anxiety has diminished, and I've started writing again."

    Carey H.

  • "Staci holds a sacred space better than anyone I have ever experienced."

    Greta V.

  • "With Staci I've begun a journey into my own truth - one I've been afraid to take for this entire lifetime. But it feels as though she holds my hand and grants me space where I can come to trust my own instincts, intuition, and wisdom. When I'm overwhelmed I can rely on the tools I've found instead of various addictions. Sessions with Staci are the most worthwhile work I've ever done."

    Diana C.

  • "Staci Boden is a spiritual midwife, holding you in her arms as you deliver yourself from the pain of the past. I will give you this warning: Do not step into this process with Staci unless you are truly prepared to awaken that which has been sleeping, deep inside of you, for far too long."

    Gwen B.

  • "Staci was a clear, gentle and yet, ever present grounding force that helped me harness my own inner strength to leave an abusive relationship. From there, she's been a touchstone and guide for expanding into my own self-love and self-supportive capacity in its many permutations. I'm so grateful for the depths of Staci's innate wisdom and practical knowledge."

    Jadyn D.

  • "Staci's methods helped me see that healing power is not only real, it is within all of us. Sometimes what it takes is learning a few tools and a lot of support."

    Jay J.

  • "The unique earth-based wise-woman energy healing that Staci offers has allowed me to sit with and move through some of the most difficult transitions in my life with awareness and grace. Her sessions are just the right combination of talk (checking-in), energy work and assessment. I always feel seen, held, and lighter afterwards."

    Hannah E.

  • "Recently I was struck by the (rather frightening) realization that, without Staci, I may have lived the rest of my life having never experienced the profound insight, awareness and healing this deep sacred work offers. Staci is the real deal. Where other practices I've tried have been more saccharine, her teaching is sweet honey, straight from the bee."

    Jenny B.

  • "I trust Staci completely."

    Mel F.

  • "Staci's loving support and wise guidance helped me through a very challenging phase of my life. She not only helped me to make sense of a painful ending with a friend, she also helped me to 'make medicine' out of it. I feel deeply grateful for Staci's integrative approach, wisdom and loving care."

    Lindsay J.

  • "I am forever grateful to Staci and her beautiful book, which came into my life at a time when I was spinning in circles. Nothing compares to the loving container she upholds, the deep energy work and her mama bear presence. Thank you Staci for the ongoing space holding and guidance as I step into my heart work. Much love!"

    Sam L.

  • "I'm in Michigan, so Staci and I work via Skype but she may as well be sitting right next to me. If I'm visualizing sitting by the sea, she will, in that exact moment, mention the sea. If an animal friend or spirit guide shows up for me, Staci knows it immediately. She can detect the precise sensations in my body and intuit how to work that energy. It's uncanny. I may never understand how she does this, but I'm just so grateful for her deep, powerful work."
